Goldsmith and designer Lina Mørk and entrepreneur Hans Henrik Nygaard are the dynamic and creative duo behind Spinning Jewelry. The pair have worked together for more than a decade and have, among other things, launched several jewellery collections under the name Unika Design – a company started by Hans Henrik Nygaard more than 20 years ago in a modest basement in Aarhus and today the foundation of Spinning Jewelry.
Lina Mørk belongs to the new generation of goldsmiths who have updated jewellery from its classical and almost invisible status to modern accessories. Lina Mørk has lived in Italy for many years and also trained as a goldsmith there. It is therefore not surprising that Italian jewellery craft is one of Lina Mørk’s main sources of inspiration. In addition, the chief designer is also inspired by today’s shapes and colours, whether found in the fashion world, everyday life or nature, such as the outline of the shape of a simple cloud.
The creative couple are driven by the desire to create jewellery with an edge, personality and a touch of humour. They continuously test ideas on each other, develop, make changes and try out materials, idioms and models. The idea of Spinning Jewelry originated from an idea that had occupied Lina Mørk for a long time. In summer 2003, she seized the bull by the horns, sat down and tried out the concept by designing ten small rings, each with either a little flower, a heart, a star or a beautiful stone. When the rings were finished, Lina Mørk had no doubt at all – Spinning Jewelry was born! Hans Henrik Nygaard was likewise able to see its potential straight away and from day one, both the concept and the controversial marketing approach resounded through the entire goldsmith industry.
